Beer Permits & Liquor Licenses
The sale of alcoholic beverages is regulated by state and local laws. The Police Department is responsible for administering the beer permit application process for the City Beer Board. Liquor-by-the-drink licensing is handled by the Department of Finance.
For information on a liquor license, call the Tax Collections Office at (931) 728-4652 ext. 1302.
For information on a beer permit, contact Tonya Simmons at (931) 728-4652 ext. 1517.
Beer Permits
A beer permit application (PDF) is available from the Police Department, which handles the administrative process. The beer permit must appear before the Beer Board for consideration.
The Beer Board, which is the Board of Mayor and Aldermen, meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month. The application process can be lengthy so applicants should apply well before opening their business or purchasing an existing business.
Beer permits are not transferable and a new owner cannot operate under a previous owner's license. Stocking beer (actually holding beer on property you own or operate) without a beer permit is a violation of the beer permit law and could result in denial of an application for a permit.
For information on a beer permit, contact Tonya Simmons at (931) 728-4652 ext. 1517.
Liquor Licenses
A liquor-by-the-drink license (PDF) is authorized by the State Alcoholic Beverage Commission. Local businesses will pay the same annual fee for the local license as their state license and should turn applications in to the Department of Finance.
For information on a liquor license, call the Tax Collections Office at (931) 728-4652 ext. 1302.
