Help/Online support from leading smoke alarm manufacturers
If you and your family are asleep when a fire breaks out in your home, the smoke won't wake you up - it will put you into a deeper sleep. That's why most fatal fires happen at night, when people are sleeping...in homes without working smoke alarms.
Smoke alarms that are properly installed and maintained play a vital role in reducing fire deaths and injuries. Having a working smoke alarm cuts the chances of dying in a reported fire in half.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, a 2008 survey found that 96 percent of U.S. households had at least one smoke alarm, yet in 2003-2006, no smoke alarms were present or none operated in two out of the five (41 percent) of the reported home fires.
Almost two-thirds of reported home fire deaths in 2003-2006 resulted from fires in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms.
When smoke alarms fail to operate, it is usually because batteries are missing, disconnected, or dead. If your smoke alarm is over ten years old, it should be replaced due to manufacture's recommendations.
Please take action today to protect your family with working smoke alarms in your home. If you need assistance with installation, battery replacement, or cannot afford to purchase smoke alarms for your home, please call the Manchester Fire & Rescue right away at (931)728-2999.
