Martial Arts

The Manchester Recreation Department is home to the Hidden Dragon  Dojo.  This comprehensive martial arts program is built around a core curriculum of traditional Okinawan Isshinryu karate (empty hand) and kobudo (weapons) training.  We utilize various training methods which include exploration of applications found within kata (forms), kumite (sparring), as well as jujitsu (grappling and ground fighting).

Isshinryu is a practical method of martial arts training.  Established on the basic precepts of quick snapping strikes, strong stable stances, and economy of motion, Isshin Ryu is recognized the world over as an effective method of self-defense.  By utilizing mobile, upright stances Isshin Ryu allows the practitioner to employ an even mix of hand and foot techniques for a versatile defensive art.

This program is presented by Sensei Trey Stevens. Class fees are $50 per month with an initial enrollment fee of $30.  All classes are held on Mondays and Thursdays and are held in the Recreation Complex.  Youth classes (ages 6-12) begin at 5:30PM, Teen/Adult classes (ages 13 and over) begin at 6:30PM.

We promote a positive self-awareness through our teachings and, in so doing, help to instill self-confidence and self-discipline in our students.  We hope you will join us and experience all of the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits of this exciting and effective martial art.

You are invited to come in and observe or participate in a free introductory class if you are interested.  Please contact Trey Stevens at 931-247-1212 or email  if you have any questions.
